Under the Law on Chambers of Health Professionals, Serbian Chamber of Biochemists was founded as an independent, professional organization whose purpose is to promote the conditions necessary for performing duties required by the professions of pharmacy graduates – M. Sc. in medical biochemistry, pharmacy graduates – medical biochemistry specialists, and medical doctors – clinical and medical biochemistry specialists, protect their professional interests, work towards the development and provision of health protection and protect the interests of the citizens in claiming their right to health protection. The Chamber started working on June 9, 2006. Membership in the Chamber is mandatory for all health professionals – biochemists, clinical chemists, employed in healthcare.

The aim of this work is to present the Serbian Chamber of Biochemists, its organizational structure, as well as its basic activities aiming to manage and constantly improve this area of healthcare, as one of the pillars of the development of medical science, disease diagnostics and patient treatment.

The Chamber has three branches: Belgrade, Niš, Vojvodina, in charge of the territories of northern, western and eastern Serbia

The most important tasks of the Chamber

In accordance with the Law on Chambers of Health Professionals, the following are the most important tasks of the Chamber:
– to gather data for the Chamber’s Register,
– to issue, renew and revoke autonomous work permits,
– to prepare a code of professional ethics,
– to act as an intermediary in the disputes between members of the Chamber and healthcare beneficiaries,
– To organize Courts of Honor to determine breaches of duty and responsibilities on behalf of the Chamber’s members, as well as recommend corrective measure for those breaches. The Chamber protects the reputation of its members, represents and defends their professional interests,
– proposes a list of supervisors for external quality assessment of expert work,
– keeps a record of Chamber’s Members private practices, provide initiatives for managing trainee and specialist internships,
– prepares a list of nominees for the title of Primarius,
– Proposes criteria and standards for determining the costs of healthcare services, initiates the development of guidelines in the fields of health protection and health insurance.
– Together with the Ministry of Health, National Institute of Health Protection, Republic Institute of Health Insurance and Expert Association, Serbian Chamber of Health Professionals is one of the founding pillars of healthcare and its development.
